Join Muscle Powered on the last Saturday in August for a beautiful hike to Marlette Lake. The hike begins from the Spooner Lake parking lot, travels north on North Canyon Road, and continues onto the single-track trail north to Marlette Lake.

Muscle Powered is a Carson City non-profit organization that promotes walking, hiking, biking and trail building. We will pass through a mixed forest that includes pine and aspen as well as chinkapin oak, sage, currents, and other shrubs. We will experience a wonderful scenic view of Marlette Lake, where we will take a lunch break, and then hike back.

Osprey often fish at this lake. This is an 11-mile round trip hike that contains a steady uphill climb, a short descent to the lake, and on return a short ascent before a steady downhill back to the parking lot.

A schedule of all upcoming activities and events can be found at www.musclepowered.org/calendar.

Who: This hike is for experienced fit hikers. Dogs are not allowed on this hike.

Required: We require at least 2 quarts of water, closed-toe sturdy hiking shoes, and snacks.

Recommended: Hats, hiking poles and sunscreen are highly recommended.

Duration: Please plan on a minimum of six hours for the hike once we have arrived at the trailhead.

Elevation Gain: Approximately 1755 feet gain, and 400 feet descent to Marlette Lake.

Meet: at the Highway 50 Park-n-Ride at 7:30 a.m. so we can carpool to the Spooner Lake State Park. Please bring a State Park parking pass if you have one, otherwise entry fee is $10 per vehicle.

We will cancel if it rains or is too smoky on the morning of the hike. Contact Connie at cs.cummings@gmail.com if you have questions.
