UPDATE: Forward progress on the fire was stopped as of 5:27 p.m., according to an East Fork Fire battalion chief.

East Fork Fire responded Thursday afternoon to a brush fire in the China Springs area on the west side of Highway 395. Multiple resources are responding, including a brush unit from Carson City that was placed on standby.
Southbound Highway 395 has been shut down near the area of the fire. According to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center, the fire was reported at 4:36 p.m. The Record-Courier reports firefighters were getting a handle on the fire.
UPDATE: At 5:15 p.m. an East Fork Fire battalion chief reported the fire had burned around 4 acres and they were closing in on it with hoses. At 5:19 the battalion chief reported the poles threatened were telephone and not power lines.
A fire investigator is on scene. The cause is under investigation.
Meanwhile, there was a traffic crash in the area of Highway 50 and State Route 28. Highway 50 westbound was closed before 5 p.m. The crash was reported to NHP at 4:45 p.m.
